An 8g nitrous oxide (N2O) cream charger is a small steel cylinder. It is filled with pure, food-grade N2O gas under high pressure. This gas is used in whipped cream dispensers. How to Use 8g N2O Chargers for Whipping Cream

Step 1: Inspect and Prepare the Cream Dispenser

Check the whipped cream dispenser thoroughly before starting charging.

Open the head piece from the stainless steel or aluminum bottle. Check the silicone or rubber head gasket. It should be clean and soft. It should be properly seated in the head valve.

Also check the dispensing nozzle. It should be free of dried dairy or any blockage.

Also check the piercing pin inside the charger holder. It should be straight, clean and in good condition. It should not have any bent parts or dirt.

Step 2: Add Liquid Ingredients to the Canister

Pour the cold liquid heavy cream into the dispenser bottle. The cream should have at least 30% to 36% milkfat.

Powdered sugar, liquid sweeteners or fine flavoring extracts can be added according to the recipe.

Do not use granulated sugar. Its undissolved grains can block the internal valve.

Step 3: Insert and Screw Down the N2O Charger

Insert an 8g N2O charger into the charger holder. Its narrow puncture tip should be facing up.

Rotate the holder clockwise onto the dispenser head. You will hear a loud hissing sound as you do this. This sound is made when the pin pierces the steel cap and injects N2O gas into the canister.

Rotate the holder until the hissing stops and the holder is completely tight.

Step 4: Shake the Dispenser to Integrate the Gas

Turn the dispenser completely upside down. The head should be facing down at this point.

Shake the canister vigorously up and down.

  • For Standard Cream (30-36% Fat): Shake 4 to 6 times.
  • For Low-Fat Cream or Plant-Based Alternatives: Shake 8 to 12 times for good emulsion stability.

Do not shake the canister too much. This can cause heavy cream to whip excessively. The cream may then become too stiff and not come out of the nozzle easily.

Step 5: Dispense and Verify Consistency

Keep the dispenser completely upside down during use.

Gently press the lever to control the flow. Pour the cream over the dessert or beverage.

If the bottle is tilted to one side, the pressurized gas may escape before the cream. This can cause the canister to degas quickly.

Check the cream that comes out. It should have a consistent texture. It should have firm peaks and a nice appearance.

Open the charger holder. Remove the empty steel cartridge and recycle it.

Then place the decorative dispenser cap on the valve thread.

Store the charged dispenser in the refrigerator. The refrigerator temperature should be below 4°C (39°F).
